New to Collagen Supplementation? Here's How to Incorporate It in Your Daily Routine — NativePath Guide

February 15, 2024

Whether you’re brand new to collagen supplementation, or you need a quick refresher on how much to take and how to take it, this blog has the answers. You’ll learn…

The optimal collagen dosage when just starting out…

The health benefits you can expect within 4, 6, and 8 weeks of supplementation…

And some of the best ways to take your collagen supplement in order to stay consistent.

Alright, let’s dive in!

How Much Collagen Should I Take Each Day?

When it comes to how much collagen you should take, it depends on a few factors—your age, gender, genetics, ailment, and what you want to achieve (i.e., do you want to gain and repair muscle? Do you want to relieve joint pain? Do you want firmer skin?).

But all those factors aside, it’s safe to say you’ll be taking anywhere from 10-40 grams of collagen peptides daily.

For those taking collagen for the very first time, we recommend you divide your collagen supplementation into two different phases: Collagen Loading and Collagen Maintenance…

Collagen Loading is a 6-to-8-week-long phase that consists of 20 to 40 grams of collagen daily (2-4 scoops of NativePath Collagen). This helps you replenish your body’s collagen back to a healthy level (AKA where it used to be before your collagen levels started declining in your mid-20s).

Once your collagen levels are restored, we transition into the Collagen Maintenance phase…

Collagen Maintenance is the indefinite phase that comes immediately after the loading phase. This consists of 10 to 20 grams of collagen per day (1-2 scoops).

Here’s the breakdown of what the right amount of collagen can do for you (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9):

How to Easily Add NativePath Collagen to Your Daily Routine

The not-so-glamorous key to taking collagen: consistency

But we know consistency isn’t the easiest thing to achieve. That’s why most of us have a cabinet full of supplements that are collecting a layer of dust right now.

But with NativePath, consistency may be a little easier…

Just this week, our team member, Krista, was sharing how staying consistent with supplements has always been hard for her. But with NativePath, it’s easy because she’s actually seeing and feeling results, so she WANTS to keep taking them.

Because of that, she’s been able to consistently take Collagen Peptides, Native Hydrate, Native Fiber, and Native Berberine for the past five weeks and feels amazing. She reports feeling “more energy, a consistent appetite for healthy foods, and deeper sleep at night.”

Needless to say, once you start experiencing the positive effects of your collagen…it’ll be hard to stop (or forget) taking it.

So, apart from the phenomenal results you may experience from collagen supplementation, how else can you keep your collagen routine sustainable?

Well, the good news is that our most popular NativePath Collagen Peptides is unflavored. So you can add it to any liquid—coffee, tea, a smoothie—and you won’t even know it’s in there. You can’t taste it, see it, or smell it. Plus, it dissolves within seconds…making it a simple addition to your morning cup of joe or your bedtime tea.

The Supplement Your Wellness Routine Is Missing

Collagen is the most abundant protein in your body, it’s essential for the health of your bones, joints, skin, hair, nails, digestion, and more.

We also carry a variety of collagen powders that are flavored, too. As of 2024, we have Chocolate Collagen, Vanilla Bean Collagen, Wild Berry Collagen, and Peach Collagen. I can vouch…they are all delicious and keep you coming back for more.

Here are a few simple ideas to help you build a sustainable collagen routine…

Adding Collagen to Your Favorite Drinks

All you really need to do is put collagen in a liquid of your choice, stir until it's fully dissolved, and sip. Easy right?

The simplest way to use collagen CONSISTENTLY is by…

Drinking Collagen Before Bed

If you have a habit of taking your supplements at night, we have the perfect collagen powder for you: Collagen PM.

Collagen PM is packed with 10 grams of grass-fed collagen—plus four additional sleep-promoting ingredients: GABA, L-theanine, magnesium, and melatonin.

We specifically crafted it for those who have a tough time falling asleep—and staying asleep. So, if you find yourself tossing and turning at night or waking up in the morning with zero energy, this may be the perfect collagen powder for you.

Collagen PM is designed to be enjoyed 30 minutes before bedtime…all I do is mix one scoop with 4 ounces of water and drink it all at once. (The reason I don’t add it to very much water is because I want to keep my water intake low so that I don’t wake up in the middle of the night to go pee.)

Adding Collagen to Recipes

As if collagen couldn’t get any more versatile…you can also cook and bake with it! Our unflavored grass-fed collagen is easy to add to any recipe.

Here are some popular ways people incorporate collagen into their day-to-day recipes…

  • Adding it to chia seed pudding and dairy-free, unsweetened yogurt
  • Adding it to soups, condiments, and dressings
  • Adding it to the batter of baked goods

Here are some of our favorite recipes that take things up a notch when you add in collagen powder:

My Favorite Collagen Trick: Habit Stacking

Prioritizing your health shouldn't feel like a burden or an annoying obligation. That's where habit stacking comes into play…

Habit stacking is an effective technique that involves "stacking" a new habit onto an existing one.

For instance, adding collagen to a beverage that you already consume on a daily basis (like coffee or tea) allows you to create a new habit without a second thought!

Habit stacking is especially helpful for busy days. It helps collagen supplementation feel less like a "task" when combined with something you already do, such as enjoying a cup of coffee or making a smoothie.

Here’s how I habit stack to get my two scoops of collagen daily:

  • I keep my Joint Health Collagen right next to my coffee mug at my coffee station, so I don’t even have to think about it in the morning.
  • I also have a jar of Wild Berry Collagen in my gym bag to pour into my water bottle for a post-workout recovery boost.

This approach naturally fosters consistency and confidence in forming this new habit rather than feeling overwhelmed and stressed.
